This is a picture that represents a mix of mass culture. It is using characters from a popular 80's video game (Super Mario Brothers) that the video game culture can relate to (The Princesses from the game, and the one-up (or extra life) item), But is using it to make reference to a very controversial, however popular, vulgar pornographic clip that was an internet sensation. (Two girls, One Cup)
I love the reference here. I think it could also link the vulgarity of certain circles with the popularity of a child's video game, possibly being an analogy to how they are beginning to overlap.
ReplyDeleteClearly they overlap, and have for years. For example, Disney putting the word "sex" in the clouds of the Lion King.
ReplyDeleteThe impact mass culture has on us, as adults, can seem very controversial when we are knowledgeable of the underlying messages. However, these underlying messages are seen as "okay" due to the fact that the children exposed to them do not understand them.
Which, in my opinion, still makes them morally wrong.
First of all I find the picture extremely hilarious and second i do believe the use of it as a mass cultural picture is majorly accurate. These two topics are very popular, some to my dismay, and are seen as major parts of our culture, again to my dismay.
ReplyDeleteThis picture is just too funny. When I see this picture the first thing that jumps out is the Slogan. Almost everyone knows what Two Girls, One Cup is or means. And to refer that to a Video Game such as Mario Bros. is hilarious but yet its very vulgar. Espically with carton theme, they have a very popular image to our culture.
