Blog on Chapter 3
Shows like "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" over play the conservative view on the news. They do it to a point of extremity that it just come off as ridiculous. During the Bush administration, even though the general public had low approval ratings of George Bush, they would make comment about how he was right and how everything he did was good for America. They would say these things with a smug look on their faces and would over use the "This is America, We do what we want" motto. This in reality strengthens the "us" against the "Them" (Elite Media or conservative media) by showing how ridiculous their views could be.

I am happy i read your post because i had no idea what those shows were about. You seem very knowledgeable about the subject . This is a very educated post And I learned something from it. I personally hate when people over use that motto to get what they want. im sure i will never watch either show.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good point. I did my blog about these shows as well. They have no idea what they are talking about half of the time, and all it is a way for them to make fun of politics and have a comedic opinion about it. These shows show me no interest at all anymore.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about how the shows make fun of politics and the bush administration. This is why people like to watch these shows. People like to be entertained and love to laugh. These shows that may seem ridiculous to some but are funny to others. It's all in what your looking to get out of watching the news. If you want the straight news watch the news. If you want to be entertained and laugh a little bit watch these types of shows.
ReplyDeleteWell, reading all the comments and people post, I would have to say I'm not going to make any effort into watching those tv shows. Making fun of things that affect the world isn't humerus to me at all. The joke is really on them. I think television stations main concern is getting tons of viewers and making a quick buck and say the hell with everything else.
ReplyDeleteThese shows do serve a huge purpose, though. One thing that I love about both of them is that they show the absurdity that goes along with "fair and balanced news reporting." There is no such thing and instead of pretending to be objective (which is not possible--there is ALWAYS an agenda no matter what station) they satirize it. By laughing at the absurd, they serve a vital function--call everyone on their b.s. and all are punished. If anything is dangerous, it's a news station that pretends to be objective while spoon feeding the audience only one position.
